New web site worth its weight in gold

Four months after launching a web site dedicated to its performance adhesives arm, the Kenyon Group has enjoyed and 86% rise in volume turnover of its glue guns and hot melt adhesives.

The group, at Regent House, Regent Street Oldham, has expanded export sales of its goods to new customers in 15 countries since the on-line operation was set up at www.gluegunsdirect.com

Previously, the company's main export market was Western Europe but orders and inquiries are coming in from the Middle East, America and the Mediterranean.
The site has received 5,000 hits and new customers range from one-off purchases to inquiries from blue-chip manufacturers.

Kenyon Group, established in 1979, ships all orders from its Oldham headquarters where it also undertakes development tests in custom-built laboratories and spray booths where work is carried out on adhesive solutions for customers with specific requirements.

Director Ian Kenyon told Talking Business: "The success of the web site has been remarkable-far more than we anticipated". "A year ago, I looked at our existing site and came to the conclusion that it was doing us more harm than good. There has been a lot of scepticism about the kind of impact a web site can have on a business, but we decided to invest in a totally interactive site and it has really worked for us.

"It has opened up new markets and new countries".
